So we don't want to bury the lede, so here goes. The Nationals were up 3-1 going into the 6th. John Lannan pitched well through 5 innings. But he was cearly laboring and the first batter in the 6th hit a double - but Manny doesn't help his guy out. No - he hangs him alone until the game is tied and he has no chance for the win.
Then comes the parade of horrible relief pitchers who don't have the ability or seeming desire to get the job done.
Jesus Colome throws a 90 mph fastball 40 feet at Dmitri Young trying to throw a runner out, which ends up going past him and eventually leads to 2 unearned runs and the loss. (And while the scorebook puts the error on Dmitri, commonsense puts the error on Jesus (Colome, not Christ).)
We are forced to watch the miserable dance of Ayala throwing a total of three pitches to two batters and allowing two inherited runners to score...
Well, that's the true story of the game - if you're looking for the glossed over version you can check out MLB.com's story. It's pathetic.
But some highlights include Guzman going 2-4, but he did play matador to a ball in the 6th; and Dukes went 2-3 with a homerun. It's just not enough.
And could someone please tell me why this Roger Bernadina kid is still batting lead-off? He's 2 for the week for crying out loud...
